The GAEDC & City Sales Tax Proposal
Granville and the Granville Area Economic Development Corporation (GAEDC) have initiated a motion for a community vote in March 2010, for a two percent sales tax for the City of Granville. If the city sales tax is approved, it will be divided into three categories:
75% for City Infrastructure
15% for Economic Development
10% for City Park Improvements and Maintenance
The two percent sales tax will contribute to the Granville community infrastructure demands today and into the future. Some of the expected costs (in 2009 dollars) anticipated are:
Main street water and sewer replacement: $200,000
City water tower improvements: $50,000
City-wide
water improvements: $300,000
City streets repair and maintenance: $75,000
If the community only funds infrastructure improvements through a property tax, only Granville property owners and residents will pay for them. A two percent city sales tax contributed to the community infrastructure would be supported by everyone who purchases taxable goods and services in Granville. For more information, contact the GAEDC or City Council members. GAEDC meets every third Thursday of the month at 7 P.M., in the City Office.
