THE SNOW STORM
A blonde gets lost in her car in a snowstorm. She remembers her father's advice, "If you ever get stuck in a snowstorm, wait for a snow plow and follow it." Soon a snow plow comes by, and she follows it for about 45 minutes.
Finally, the driver of the truck gets out and asks her what she is doing. She explains the advice her father had given her. The driver says, "Well, I'm done with the parking lot here at the mall, now you can follow me over to the bank."

JUST A THOUGHT. . .
I ALWAYS TELL BY NEW BROTHER-IN-LAW HE HAS TO BE NICE TO ME CAUSE I AM THE EDITOR OF THE GRANVILLE GAZETTE AND I CAN WRITE THINGS ABOUT HIM. WELL, THE TIME HAS COME! HERE GOES! DAVE, THANK YOU FOR COMING INTO OUR LIVES. THANK YOU FOR MAKING MY SISTER SO HAPPY. THANK YOU FOR BEING YOU CAUSE YOU DO IT SOOOO GOOD. YOU ARE DEFINATLY WHAT I WOULD HAVE PICKED FOR MY SISTER. I THANK GOD EVERY DAY FOR YOU! OK, NOW I CAN'T BRIBE HIM WITH THAT ANYMORE. CHANCES ARE I WILL THINK OF SOMETHING ELSE.
|
I AM SITTING HERE TRYING TO SEE THE WAREHOUSE ACROSS THE LOT. AT TIMES IT IS CLEARLY THERE AND SOME TIMES IT JUST DISAPPEARS. MAYBE I SHOULD HAVE STAYED HOME BUT THE ROADS WERE GOOD AND I JUST CRUISED INTO TOWN. NOW I AM HAVING SECOND THOUGHTS. OH!! THERE IT IS!! NOW IT'S GONE. DON'T WE LOVE NORTH DAKOTA WEATHER? IF YOU DON'T LIKE THE WEATHER WAIT A MINUTE. IT WILL CHANGE. I DIDN'T GO TO WORK ON SATURDAY CAUSE IT WAS SUPPOSED TO BE SO BAD CASEY TOLD ME TO JUST STAY HOME. IT WAS BEAUTIFUL OUT. I SHOVELED THE WALK IN MY SWEATSHIRT. ACTUALLY I HAD PANTS AND SHOES ON TOO. BUT IT WAS BEAUTIFUL OUTSIDE. WENT TO MOMS THAT AFTERNOON. WE WENT IN AND HAD COFFEE WITH PAM. FELT A LITTLE GUILTY, BUT NOT REALLY. WE MET PAM'S NEW PUPPY, BAILEY. SHE'S A MORKIE. THAT'S A YORKIE AND MALTEZE CROSS. SHE WEIGHTS IN AT 1 POUND 4 OZ. SHE IS SO CUTE. PEANUT WAS A LITTLE JEALOUS. I HAD TO HOLD HER TOO.
*******
WE LOST TWO WONDERFUL WOMEN THIS MONTH. PEG LARSEN & BETTY TRANA
PEG WAS ONE OF A KIND. SHE ALWAYS MADE YOU FEEL SO SPECIAL. SHE WAS A TRULY NICE LADY. WE ALSO LOST ONE OF THE LAST DONUT MAKERS IN TOWN. SHE WAS THE BEST. SHE WOULD EVEN CALL TIM AND TELL HIM SHE WAS MAKING DONUTS SO WE COULD RUN OVER THERE AND GET SOME.
PEOPLE WOULD DRIVE PURPOSELY THROUGH TOWN TO SEE BETTY TRANAS FLOWERS. SHE WAS SUCH A SWEET, SENSITIVE, CARING PERSON. I WOULD SEE HER OUTSIDE WORKING ON HER FLOWERS ON WEEKDAY MORNINGS WHEN I WAS ON MY WAY TO WORK. SHE CREATED SO MUCH BEAUTY FOR OUR TOWN. SHE WAS THE SECOND WINNER OF OUR ATTA BOY AWARDS BECAUSE OF HER YARD.
BOTH OF THESE FINE LADIES WILL BE MISSED. NOT ONLY FOR THERE PRODUCTIVITY BUT BECAUSE THE WERE BEAUTIFUL WOMEN, INSIDE AND OUTSIDE.
LET'S ALL HOPE WE HAVE SOMETHING FOR THE NEIGHBORS TO REMEMBER US BY.

HIGHWAY 109
A drunk man in an Oldsmobile
They said had run the light
That caused the six-car pileup
On 109 that night.
When broken bodies lay about
'And blood was everywhere,'
'The sirens screamed out eulogies,'
For death was in the air.
'A mother, trapped inside her car,'
|
Page 4 - Granville Gazette
|
|
Was heard above the noise;
Her plaintive plea near split the air:
'Oh, God, please spare my boys!'
She fought to loose her pinned hands;
'She struggled to get free,'
But mangled metal held her fast
In grim captivity.
Her frightened eyes then focused
'On where the back seat once had been,'
But all she saw was broken glass and
Two children's seats crushed in.
Her twins were nowhere to be seen;
'She did not hear them cry, '
'And then she prayed they'd been thrown free, '
'Oh, God, don't let them die! '
Then firemen came and cut her loose, '
'But when they searched the back, '
'They found therein no little boys, '
But the seat belts were intact.
They thought the woman had gone mad
'And was traveling alone, '
'But when they turned to question her, '
They discovered she was gone.
Policemen saw her running wild
And screaming above the noise
'In beseeching supplication, '
Please help me find my boys!
They're four years old and wear blue shirts;
'Their jeans are blue to match.''
'One cop spoke up, ''They're in my car, '
And they don't have a scratch.
They said their daddy put them there
'And gave them each a cone, '
Then told them both to wait for Mom
To come and take them home.
'I've searched the area high and low, '
But I can't find their dad.
'He must have fled the scene, '
'I guess, and that is very bad.'
'The mother hugged the twins and said, '
'While wiping at a tear, '
'He could not flee the scene, you see, '
'For he's been dead a year.'
'The cop just looked confused and asked, '
'Now, how can that be true? '
'The boys said, ''Mommy, Daddy came '
'And left a kiss for you.'' '
He told us not to worry
'And that you would be all right, '
And then he put us in this car with
'The pretty, flashing light. '
'We wanted him to stay with us, '
'Because we miss him so, '
'But Mommy, he just hugged us tight '
And said he had to go.
He said someday we'd understand
'And told us not to fuss, '
'And he said to tell you, Mommy, '
'He's watching over us.'
The mother knew without a doubt
'That what they spoke was true, '
'For she recalled their dad's last words, |
' ' I will watch over you..'
The fire men's notes could not explain
'The twisted, mangled car, '
And how the three of them escaped
Without a single scar.
'But on the cop's report was scribed, '
'In print so very fine, '
An angel walked the beat tonight
on Highway 109.
Wittle Wabbit |
A little girl walks into a pet shop and asks in the sweetest little lisp: "Excuthe me, mithter, do you keep wittle wabbits?"
And the shopkeeper gets down on his knees, so that he's on her level, and asks: "Do you want a wittle white wabby or a soft and fuwwy bwack wabby or maybe one like that cute wittle bwown wabby over there?"
The little girl puts her hands on her knees, leans forward and says in a quiet voice: "I don't fink my pyfon really giveths a thit." |
“CHARACTER COUNTS!”
Character Continues …
The “CHARACTER COUNTS!” Program has been a part of many of our area schools. The Minot Daily News even publishes articles written by students focusing on one of the “Six Pillars of Character”. For those of us who are not aware of what “CHARACTER COUNTS!” is all about … here is a little background and history.
In 1992, a summit was hosted by the Josephson Institute, the parent organization of “CHARACTER COUNTS!”. The Josephson Institute is a nonprofit nationally active organization whose mission is to help focus the energy of people who want to do something to make our society more honest, fair, caring, and accountable. The summit consisted of a group of leading ethicists, educators, and youth-service professionals. Their purpose was to develop a common language of core ethical values that transcend religious, political, and socioeconomic differences.
This esteemed group identified universal values, later called “The Six Pillars of Character” – and they are: Trustworthiness, Respect, Responsibility, Fairness, Caring, and Citizenship. A national character-education movement was then established, and was called “CHARACTER COUNTS!” Today, this amazing program has become the most widely implemented approach to character education for our children.
Our children are being taught these important values in our schools through this program. Try as we might however, in this busy and crazy world, we as adults sometimes forget the importance of these values (and
|

|

none of us are perfect by any means, I know I’m not!). Unfortunately, sometimes, we suffer the consequences of ignoring these values, each of us individually, our families and friends, neighbors, organizations, clubs, churches, social circles, workplaces, and communities as a whole. How are we to continue nurturing our future (our children and young adults), if we as adults do not try to practice and demonstrate the same values in our everyday activities?
So, yes … Character Counts! … and it should continue. In the upcoming months, our Christian Youth Organization will be writing about each of the “Six Pillars of Character”, and sharing them with all the readers of the Granville Gazette. It is our hope, that in doing so, it will help reinforce the importance of good character, and thereby enriching our lives and communities. So, with that being said, “CHARACTER COUNTS!” and let’s ENCOURAGE it to CONTINUE!
