Granville 2% City Sales Tax
|
In January, the citizens of Granville will decide on a 2% city sales tax. The Granville City Sales Tax will go into three categories:
75% City Infrastructure
15% Economic Development
10% City Park Improvements and Maintenance.
With the 2% sales tax, the community will be able to continue meeting the infrastructure demands today and in the future.
Some of these future costs are:
Main street water and sewer replacement -
(2009 dollar costs) $200,000.00
Water Tower Improvements $50,000.00, Water Improvements City Wide $300,000.00
Street repair and maintenance $75,000.00
If the community funds infrastructure improvements through a property tax, only Granville residents will pay for it. A 2% sales tax would be supported by ALL people that purchase items in Granville. For more information, contact the Economic Development Corporation members or your City council members.

HOW TO AVOID THE FLU
At a recent PATH seminar in Fargo, Dr. Goyal gave easy to follow, recommendations on ways to AVOID GETTING SICK. The following message given by Dr. Goyal, makes a lot of sense and is important for all to know.
The only portals of entry are the nostrils and mouth/throat. In a global epidemic of this nature, it's almost impossible to avoid coming into contact with H1N1 in spite of all precautions. Contact of H1N1 is not so much of a problem as proliferation.
While you are still healthy and not showing any symptoms of H1N1 infection, in order to prevent proliferation, aggravation of symptoms and development of secondary infections, some very simple steps, can be practiced (instead of focusing on how to stock N95 or Tamiflu):
1. Frequent hand-washing, most important.
2. "Hands-off-the-face" approach. Resist all temptations to touch any part of face (unless you want to eat, or bathe).
3. Gargle twice a day with warm salt water (use Listerine if you don't trust salt). *H1N1 takes 2-3 days after initial infection in the throat/nasal cavity to proliferate and show characteristic symptoms. Simple gargling prevents proliferation.
4. Similar to 3 above, clean your nostrils at least once every day with warm salt water. Blowing the nose hard once a day and swabbing both nostrils with cotton swab, buds dipped in warm salt water is very effective in bringing down viral population.
5. Boost your natural immunity with foods that are rich in Vitamin C (Amla and other citrus fruits). *If you have to supplement with Vitamin C tablets, make sure that it also has Zinc to boost absorption.
6. Drink as much of warm liquids (tea, coffee, etc) as you can. Drinking warm liquids has the same effect as gargling, but in the reverse direction. They wash off proliferating viruses from the throat into the stomach where they cannot survive, proliferate or do any harm. |

Fall Tree Tip for Care of Backyard Apple Trees. After harvesting your apples, clean up around your tree(s) to prevent codling moth caterpillars and her insects that bury themselves in the core of apples to overwinter. This includes removing any shriveled up apples left hanging on the branches. Looking to plant a
apple tree try a Stayman Winesap Apple.

JUST A THOUGHT . .
I MUST ADMIT THERE WERE TIMES I MIGHT HAVE THOUGHT ABOUT SENDING ONE OF MY KIDS UP IN A HOT AIR BALLOON. NEVER HAD ONE.SO IT REALLY WASN’T AN OPTION. I NEVER WOULD HAVE DONE IT EVEN IF I WOULD HAVE HAD ONE BUT IT IS A THOUGHT. I CAN’T BELIEVE PEOPLE THESE DAYS. WHERE DO THESE PEOPLE GET THER BRAINS, THE CLEARANCE RACK AT WALMART? I’VE OFTEN REMARKED PEOPLE DON’T SURPRISE ME ANYMORE BUT THERES ALWAYS THE EXCEPTION. THE KID SAID IT WAS FOR THE SHOW. SO HE HEARD THAT SOMEWHERE. PROBABLY FROM HIS ATTENTION-HUNGRY DAD. NOW THEY MIGHT LOSE THEIR CUSTODY. THAT’S A SAD THING. OR MAYBE NOT. I GES WE’LL SEE.
GAVIN WAS A MONKEY FOR HALLOWEEN. I HAVE PICTURES. HE WAS SO CUTE. OF COURSE THAT’S GRANDMA TALKING.
OUR HOT WATER HEATER FINALLY QUIT FOR GOOD LAST WEEK. TIM HAS BEEN BABYING IT FOR MONTHS. WE FINALLY GAVE IT THE FINAL HANDSHAKE AND LET IT GO. I WENT TO MENARDS TO LOOK AT THEM SO WE WOULD KNOW HOW MANY HUNDREDS OF DOLLARS IT WAS GONNA COST.
I TOLD TIM HE HAD TO COME AND GET IT CAUSE IT WOULD NOT FIT IN MY VEHICLE. SO WE MEET AT MENARDS AT ABOUT 5:30PM. PICKED OUT THE ONE WE WANTED. PD FOR IT AND THEY SAID IT WOULD TAKE A LITTLE WHILE TO GET THE LIFT OVER THERE TO GET IT DOWN FROM THE TOP SHELF. OK! SO WE WENT OVER TO TODDS FOR AWHILE TO VISIT. GO BACK ABOUT AN HOUR LATER. NO ONE HAD ANY IDEA OR CARED WHAT HAPPENED TO OUR HOT WATER HEATER.
SO WE WAIT, AND WAIT, AND WAIT. FINALLY I SAW SOMEONE I USED TO WORK WITH WHO NOW WORKS AT MENARDS. HE SENT TWO GUYS TO GET MY HOT WATER HEATER. IN WHAT SEEMED LIKE AN HOUR LATER WE HEARD THEM ON THE RADIO SAYING THEY COULD NOT
|
FIND IT. SO MARK (MY FRIEND) WENT OVER IN THAT SECTION TO HELP. THE COMPUTER SAID THEY HAD 4. THEY DID RIGHT BEHIND A DIFFERENT TYPE. THOSE GUYS HADN’T BOTHERED TO LOOK. SO AFTER PAYING FOR IT AT 5:25PM WE FINALLY GOT HOME AT 9:45PM. TALK ABOUT BEING FUSTRATED. IT’S ALMOST AS BAD AS THE WAITING AT WALMART.
TODD SAiD GOOD LUCK WHEN WE WERE GOING BACK TO MENARDS. WE SAID WE WERE GOING TO GET IT AND PUT IT IN THAT NIGHT. WELL, AS YOU KNOW THAT DIDN’T HAPPEN.
WE HAD TO BUY A NEW FREEZER JUST A COUPLE OF WEEKS AGO. SINCE OUR PICKUP WAS BROKE DOWN WE ASKED TODD TO PICK IT UP AT MENARDS AND BRING IT OUT IN HIS. HE ENDED UP WAITING FOREVER AND A DAY FOR IT. FIRST THEY COULDN’T FIND IT. I HAD PAID FOR IT AND THEY WERE SUPPOSED TO HAVE IT ALL READY THE NEXT NIGHT WHEN HE CAME TO GET IT. GES AGAIN! COULDN’T FIND IT, BUT THERE WAS 2 OF THAT KIND ON THE COMPUTER. WELL, AFTER HE WAITED FOR EVER THEY FINALLY FOUND IT. IT WAS MARKED WRONG ON THE OUTSIDE OF THE BOX.
I THINK SOME OF US SHOULD GO IN THERE IN THE NIGHT AND ORGANIZE. DO YOU THINK THEY WOULD NOTICE? PROBABLY NOT!

THE YEAR 1909
The year is 1909. One hundred years ago.
What a difference a century makes! Here are some statistics for the Year
1909 : The average life expectancy was 47 years.
Only 14 percent of the homes had a bathtub.
Only 8 percent of the homes had a telephone..
There were only 8,000 cars and only 144
miles of paved roads.
The max speed limit in most cities was 10 mph.
The tallest structure in the world was the EiffelTower
The average wage in 1909 was 22 cents per hour.
The average worker made between $200 and $400 per year ...
A competent accountant could expect to earn $2000, A dentist $2,500, A veterinarian between $1,500 and $4,000, A mechanical engineer about $5,000.
More than 95 percent of all births took
place at HOME.
Ninety percent of all doctors had NO
COLLEGE EDUCATION!
Instead, they attended so-called medical schools, many of which Were condemned in the press AND the government as'substandard’.
Sugar cost four cents a pound.
Eggs were fourteen cents a dozen..
Coffee was fifteen cents a pound.
Most women only washed their hair once a month, and used Borax or egg yolks for shampoo. |
Canada passed a law that prohibited poor
people from entering into their
country for any reason.
The five leading causes of death were:
1. Pneumonia and influenza
2. Tuberculosis
3. Diarrhea
4. Heart disease
5. Stroke
The American flag had 45 stars.
The population of Las Vegas, Nevada, was only 30 !!
Crossword puzzles, canned beer, and ice tea Hadn't been invented yet.
There was no Mother's Day or Father's Day.
Two out of every 10 adults couldn't read or write.
Only 6 percent of all Americans had
graduated from high school.
Marijuana, heroin, and morphine were all available
over the counter at the local corner drugstores.
Back then pharmacists said, "Heroin clears the complexion, gives buoyancy to the mind, regulates the stomach and bowels and is, in fact, a perfect guardian of health."
Eighteen percent of households had at least one full-time servant or domestic help.
There were about 230 reported murders in the ENTIRE U.S.A.!
Try to imagine what it may be like in
another 100 years.
IT STAGGERS THE MIND

Thanksgiving Humor
How do you keep a turkey in suspense?
I'll tell you at Christmas.
Why did the turkey cross the road?
It was the chicken's day off.
What did the mother turkey say to her disobedient children?
If your father could see you now, he'd turn over in his gravy!
What key has legs and can't open doors?
Tur-key.
What sound does a space turkey make?
Hubble, hubble, hubble.
Why do turkeys always go "gobble, gobble"?
Because they never learned good table manners!
Happy

Thanksgiving! |
