DECEMBER 5 TH, 2008 PROCEEDS TO GO TO TGU BOOSTER CLUB IF YOU ARE INTERESTED IN SHOWING YOUR HOME, CONTACT WANDA BACHMEIER AT 721-9957 OR KARLA THOMPSON AT 537-5360 *************************************** NEWS FROM THE McHENRY COUNTY AUDITORS OFFICE The 1993 Legislative Session allowed counties to conduct Mail Ballot Primary Elections and the 2007 Legislative Session extended that option to the General Elections. The McHenry County Commissioners have opted to hold the 2008 Primary and General elections by mail, which in essence, means that all voters will be voting absentee. There are several objectives to this decision. The main objective is the cost savings in holding the election in the way of reducing the cost of programming and maintaining eight election machines, eight AutoMarks, eight voting locations |
and a substantial reduction in the number of poll workers for training and Election Day. The cost savings will not hinder the convenience of voting, as all voters will have the opportunity to vote in the comforts of their home, taking time to thoroughly study the ballot before making their final decisions. Those residents who voted in either the 2004 or 2006 General Elections but did not vote in the 2008 Primary Election, or, residents who voted in the 2008 Primary Election but marked their application to receive only the Primary ballot, were sent a ballot application request form from the County Auditor’s office the week of September 22 nd. This application will need to be completed and returned in order to receive a ballot for the General Election. They will then be sent a ballot along with voting instructions, a secrecy sleeve and a return envelope. The ballot must be postmarked no later than the day before the election. If you choose not to VBM, you will be given the opportunity to vote in the traditional manner at the county courthouse in Towner on Election Day. Residents who voted in the Primary Election and marked their application to receive ballots for all elections within the year should have received their ballot in the mail. For those residents who wish to vote but did not receive the ballot application or their ballot in the mail, contact the County Auditor’s office or download the ballot application from the Secretary of State’s webpage. Of the 53 counties in the State, 22 will be conducting VBM elections this year. Adams County has been conducting their Primary Elections since the law allowed that option in the 1993 Legislative Session, with very good success. All indications show that a VBM election should increase the voter turnout, which is a primary objective of all elections. If you have any questions or concerns about the VBM process, please call the McHenry County Auditor’s office. ******************************* EVER WONDER. . . A MESSAGE FROM MARY. . . That He would grant you, according to the riches of His glory, to be strengthened with might through His Spirit in the inner man, that Christ
may dwell in your hearts through faith; that you, being rooted and grounded in love, may be able to comprehend with all the saints what is the width and length and depth and height- to know the love of Christ which passes knowledge; that you may be filled with all the fullness of God. (Ephesians 3:16-19, New King James Version) This was probably the biggest change in my life and all of you have made it so enjoyable. When I think about the change in my life it is not just location that has changed. My faith in God has changed much over the years and I know if I did not have that faith I would not be able to get through some of the stressful times in my life. My faith was not always as strong as it is now. There was a time that I did not go to church, I was angry with God and I blamed Him and all those around me for the hurtful things that came my way. Sometimes when you have been hurt so many times it is much easier to hurt others before they hurt us. We all need a change of heart at times. We need to look to God in prayer when we are hurting, when we are lonely or sick. We need to "Let Go & Let God" we need to let Him take hold of our hearts and change us, only then will we be able to let the hurt and pain go that keeps us from changing. All of us have things that we need to change in our lives and God is there to help us through those changes if we only look to Him. There is so much hurt in this world, the church, the community so with the change of the seasons let us also change our hearts and our minds to focus
more on Christ and what He has done for us so that we may be more Christ like ourselves.
HAPPY HALLOWEEN WATCH OUT FOR ALL THOSE LITTLE MUNCHKINS!

The Truck DriverAn old man was eating in a truck stop when three bikers walked in.The first walked up to the old man, pushed his cigarette into the old man's pie and then took a seat at the counter. The second walked up to the old man, spit into the old man's milk and then he took a seat at the counter. The third walked up to the old man, turned over the old man's plate, and then he took a seat at the counter.Without a word of protest, the old man quietly left the diner.Shortly thereafter, one of the bikers said to the waitress, "Humph, not much of a man, was he?"The waitress replied, "Not much of a truck driver either. He just backed his truck over three motorcycles." |

CALL WINONA EVENS AT 728-6623 The Three SonsThree sons left home, went out on their own and prospered. Getting back together, they discussed the gifts they were able to give their elderly Mother. The first said, "I built a big house for our Mother."The second said, "I sent her a Mercedes with a driver."The third smiled and said, "I've got you both beat. You remember how Mom enjoyed reading the Bible? And you know she can't see very well any more. I sent her a remarkable parrot that recites the entire Bible. It took Elders in the church 12 years to teach him. He's one of a kind. Mama just has to name the chapter and verse, and the parrot recites it."Soon thereafter, Mom sent out her letters of thanks: " Milton," she wrote one son, "the house you built is so huge. I live in only one room, but I have to clean the whole house.""Gerald," she wrote to another, "I am too old to travel any more. My eyesight isn't what it used to be. I stay most of the time at home, so I rarely use the Mercedes. And the driver is so rude!""Dearest Donald," she wrote to her third son, "you have the good sense to know what your Mother likes. The chicken was delicious!"
